"The angel is going to hit landfall in the area of Poverty bay, after the Tanks and VTOLS attempt to stall the angel, we'll make our strike" Was the briefing as Tyrone Johnson gave it...
That is not how the fight went down
As the battle plan was suppose to go down, the tanks and VTOL aircraft would have led the Angel into the red zone, so the Eva's could take it down in a coordinated 3 way strike... The tanks were completely useless, actually inflicting damage to the area, and not the angel, the strikes from the VTOLS stalled it... for moments... before 2 squads of VTOLS were destroyed...
The Eva's were for deployed in two waves, Tear and Maryann went up first, Issac tried to leap up to join the squad, forced to ride of the Embarkation elevator, but couldn't manage to make the leap in his heavy Evangelion.
Maryann was the only slightly slower to react to the Angel as it attempted to strike the first blow against her eva, it was only by miracle, that Maryann was able to throw her AT field in front of her, shielding herself for almost a minute as Tear Futilely struck at the angel....
Maryann was scared, she was shaking down to her core, barely keeping her self from vomiting.... it was the revelation... this Angel... this Angel was the one who killed the Japan pilot, the one that survived the destruction of Japan... and here it stood, a Horror beyond compare, massive maws in it's hands, and a giant monstrous mouth in it's stomach....
It was Sachiel.... reformed as a great Carnivore, one that hungered for Evangelions... it was also... more disturbingly merged with Evangelion 01... and clearly had become much stronger for it.
Sachiel was pounding against the Barrier that Maryann had raised, with Tear having gone Semi-Berserk in her Plug was smashing away at the thick hide with her claws to no effect, Issac was charging in, the battle had started far short of the original operation point, the Secondary umbilicals were being rushed to be moved into position if there were needed as the angel poured rage and hate into Maryann's barrier.
Maryann's efforts to swallow fear were only hindered further as Tear leaped straight into a AT-field as it was revealed that the Angels had AT fields... which would have made this far more difficult, she just couldn't bring herself to advance to striking distance. At this Issac arrived rushing in with his prog-knife trying to stab through the AT field as he was attempting to negate the AT-Field as he was trained failed to break the Angels field. Tear Threw her self into the field breaking it's field, but being blocked by it's tough hide. and Maryann, seeing her fellow pilots in the fight, let fly with her pallet riffle, inflicting some light damage just as the angel grabbed one of Issac's arms and bit into it, almost taking the entire arm off!
Then the angel with a glance over at Maryann, who let the barrier fall, caused a massive explosion, Maryann was caught in the middle of a massive cross shaped explosion that ripped several city blocks apart and melting the armor completely off of Maryann's right leg!
While Issac attempted to grapple the angel, and failed at it, Tear took the opportunity to strike out at the legs with it's claws, causing shallow scratches in the angels flesh, Seeing her timer counting down, Mary fell back to one of the secondary Umbilicals and plugged herself back in.
Issac at this point was clearly tired of the angels shit and pulled out a large one handed warhammer, Akin to the hammer of Thor and swing strong and true at the Angel's right knee, almost causing it to loose grip, it was only able to stay standing by grabbing, and biting, into Issac's right arm. Tear tried to capitalize on this by leaping at the angels face, but her claws couldn't get through the bone like mask on it's "head" and Maryann failed no better as she fired off the rest of her clip into the angel.
This would start the long and bloody beginning of the Angel's end, Issac fought like the Norse god of war personified with his Warhammer! He swung and smashed into the angels torso inflicting some pretty serious damage against it, Tear as able to savage the Left leg of the angel like a really pissed off ankle biting beast. Maryann through concentrated effort made the Angel's At field a non factor, where it would stay the rest of the battle.
The battle would degenerate for the next few moments into testing swings, and maneuvering, until Issac took advantage of a slight drop into the angels guard to run in and shatter the angel's knee, to which the angel could only counter with a few light scratches in Issac's paint, Tear leap onto the angels shoulders to keep it off balance and stabbed the tip of her prog-knife into the angels face, performing minimal damage. Meanwhile Maryann having long sense mastered her own fear stabbed the angel, but hit an armored portion of it and couldn't score a damaging hit.
Then the angel the unthinkable, It detonated one of it's cross blasts point blank where they were standing, everyone including the angel was thrown back, the damage to every one was severe... the Angel's face mask was cracked and partial melted... Issac had serious damaged to his chest plate and was left reeling for a moment in the plug, Tear was pulling herself to her feet....
Maryann, as the smoke, was grabbing the cauterized stump of her left arm... screaming in her very real pain, as the shock of the damage actually affected her in the plug. Issac seeing this, rushed in to inflict damage by hammer and the knife, ignoring the timers on there Evangelions as there precious internal battery life ticked down!
It wasn't until Issac smashed the angel in the fact, actually breaking the mask off of it... and finding himself looking eye to eye with the face of Evangelion 01, did he snap back and realize his situation, to late however to prevent his Evangelion's violent disembowelment at the hands of the Angel. af this was happening, Tear as softening off the angels legs for what would soon be the opening that would bring the great beast down.
Tear ignored her Battery timer, as the numbers went below the one minute mark, as the Plug's computer warned her that she was about to run out of power... Tear knew damn well this was about to happen... she had a plan.... if she survived this.
As Tears Angel went limp and slumped to the ground, and as the angel was preparing to strike a likely killing blow against the now helpless pilot, Issac pulled his Big damn heroes moment for the session, tear had softened up the angels legs so much that Issac was actually able to smash his hammer into the angels Left leg, Shattering the bones and bringing the monster down.
It's really unknown if for a moment, Issac thought it was over, or if a small bit of pride took over... but next thing Issac knew, the angel reached out... and Issac stumbled back in pain... looking at his now detached left arm laying on the ground next to him... the shock of it all... the sheer suddenness of it... stunned him sickened the pilot momentary....
He almost didn't notice that Tear's Eva had stood up howling.....
If there was a collective "Oh shit" moment of the battle... it was when Tear's Eva went berserk... It stood up under it's own power... infused with rage, and left at the angel tearing, stabbing, killing.
Maryann joined in the brutal assault stabbing the angel with her own prog-knife, a one armed Issac also joined to hammer away at the Angel.
Issac smashed the angels head in, destroying the Angel's head for the most part... Tear bit down on the angels leg hard enough to fracture the leg. and Maryann Stabbed the leg with such brutality that it fell back down, leaving it open for tear to rip off the rest of the way tossing it away into the distance. Issac Kept it down with repeated hammer blows, one of which exploded what was left of the angels head, which Tear then tore apart taking most of the torso with it.....
They finshed it in true team fashion.... while Tear held it's ribs apart, Maryann stabbed the core, and Issac with his hammer, smashed the knife in, finishing the job...
One could imagine what was going through Maryann and Issac's heads... Tear was still in her Enraged Eva... which almost to easily sat down and simply went back to sleep.... Tear was fine inside and no worse for wear....
As the cheers rang out over the intercom, the scene faded to black....
